Steel Buckling to Graphene Oxide Concrete

Summary of the Presentation
Dr Kim will present her recent research at the Materials and Structures Research Group (MAST) at the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom, covering from steel buckling to cementitious materials with Graphene Oxide and two global challenges projects funded by Royal Academy of Engineering. Her research has involved in analytical study, numerical modelling and/or experimental work. She will report the strength and durability of the Graphene Oxide cement mortar/concrete tested at the Materials Laboratory. She will discuss possible research collaborations with the University of Plymouth.
As Associate Head of Civil Engineering at the University of Plymouth from 2015 to 2018, Dr Boksun Kim made huge contributions to the management and operation of the Civil Engineering programmes on a daily basis. She has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills to motivate and inspire people within and beyond the University. Her research expertise includes steel, concrete and composite structures, graphene oxide concrete, sustainable homes (plastic bottle houses) and a new fylfot-shape wave energy device. The outcome of her research has led over 31 research publications and many research grants, including, the two EU funded Research Innovation and Staff Exchange programmes (TRAC-Taylor made Recycled Aggregate Concrete, 2017-21, 450k euros and PRIGeoC-Partnership for research in Geopolymer Concrete, 2015-20, 517.5k euros) and the two RAEng Frontiers of Engineering Seed Funding. As a Chartered Structural Engineer and the Chair of the IStructE Devon and Cornwall Regional Group, she has been promoting structural engineering to raise the profile of engineering.
