学术报告内容:

Water seepage is a common problem in masonry and reinforced concrete structures all over the world. Strain-Hardening Cementitious Composites (SHCC) with ultrahigh ductility and excellent crack control under tension can be very useful for waterproofing applications. However, the high material cost, embodied energy and embodied carbon of typical SHCC limit its wide applications. In particular, the cost of the commonly-used 2 vol.% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers account for almost 80% of the material cost in typical SHCC. On the other hand, as a major portion of the total plastic waste bulk but lack of reuse and recycling, the enormous amounts of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) solid waste have led to serious environmental issues. To reduce the material cost and improve the sustainability, this study explores the potential of replacing commonly-used PVA fibers by recycled PET fibers, which are made from waste plastic bottles. This report shows the results from a comprehensive experimental and theoretical study covering waterproofing matrix design, PET fiber surface treatment and mechanical performance of SHCC with hybrid PVA/PET fibers. Satisfactory mechanical performance can be achieved with up to 50% of the PVA fibers replaced by recycled PET fibers with surface treatment, and using recycled PET fibers in SHCC can significantly reduce the material cost and environmental impact. This study reveals the potential of the new SHCC for waterproofing applications.

 

余靖个人简介:

余靖博士,现为香港科技大学(Hong Kong University of Science and Technology)土木及环境工程系博士后研究员(Post-Doctoral Fellow)。浙江大学土木工程学士,香港科技大学土木工程博士,学习期间曾获美国富布莱特(Fulbright)香港学人奖、中国土木工程学会高校优秀毕业生奖、中国教育部国家奖学金等多项荣誉。余博士主要研究方向为先进可持续水泥基复合材料;近年来作为主要研究人员参与香港创新科技署、香港研究资助局、香港建造业议会等资助的纵向科研项目7项;2017年至今以第一/通讯作者发表SCI期刊论文11篇(含JCR一区9篇);数次受邀出席香港政府、香港工程师协会相关会议并作主题报告(keynote);受邀担任Journal of Hazardous Materials, Cement and Concrete Composites等9本国际SCI期刊审稿人。
