Major research direction


1)Fundamental research on the durability theory and technical application in civil engineering

The research priorities in this direction include the transportation rule and mathematical model of harmful media in marine environments, steel corrosion mechanism and anti-corrosion strategies, concrete deterioration mechanism under multi-actions (mechanical and environmental), definition and characterization of environmental effects; characterization and testing methods of deterioration mechanism, etc.

2Whole service life design theory and its application in civil engineering

The research priorities in this direction is based on the performance and reliability of theoretical system of Service Life Design (Redesign) (PRSLD); Explore various degradation limit state, mechanism analysis model and service life evaluation methods under corrosive environments; propose corresponding strategies on maintenance and repair through scientific determination of structure resistance parameters and reasonable evaluation of structural performance related to service life.


3Research and application of sustainable civil engineering support technology

Research on the quality control and inspection in the structure construction, as well as the development and application of intelligent long-term monitoring system for concrete structures, develop several practical NDT technology, structural anti-corrosion repair and reinforcement technologies; develop intelligent sensor technology for detecting concrete durability; comprehensive utilization of resources and the development and application of new sustainable materials.

1Technical policies and regulations

Edited and co-edited various technical standards and regulations at all category; establish an integrated databases to provide relevant technical consulting services for the project owners.


2)Service life design in civil engineering (new structures)

Provide an all-around technical consulting services in the design stage of civil engineering structure (from materials to structures); adopt advanced theories and methods to design the service life of civil engineering and combine with sustainable design theory to formulate a optimized design scheme for the proprietor, especially for major infrastructures.


3)Quality control in civil engineering structures(construction stage)

To ensure the service life of the structure, quality control in the constructure stage is the priority among priorities. The quality control design and monitoring platform created by the Key laboratory are positioned in this traditional zone; lay the foundation for the structure to reach its designed service life through using innovative theories and technologies to ensure the quality of the structure during construction.


4)Service life redesign in civil engineering(existing structures)

The major markets for the future engineering structure will inevitably shift from new construction to the maintenance and repair of existing structures. The key laboratory can provide strong support for the operation of the engineering structure by using the service life redesign theory of civil engineering structures. The service content at this stage may involve structure health monitoring, inspection and evaluation, maintenance, repair and strengthening.
